This is another experiment in comics storytelling. With the exception of the final page, no two panels in this story are sequential. It was interesting to see the reactions to this story, from friends who read it pre-publication. Many people tried to impose linear storytelling where there was none, or assumed the comic switched back and forth between two distinct timelines, instead of bouncing around the entirety of this man’s life.

The artist on this story, Aaron Houston, is extraordinary at creating fantastic new worlds, outlandish characters and dynamic fight scenes. But in his work I also noticed a talent for small moments, and personal interactions. So I wrote this intimate, humanistic story in part to tap into that aspect of his considerable talent. I was thrilled with the results.
