In this story, I wanted to tell two parallel tales: one, told through the art, about a man struggling to change a flat tire. And the other, told through the lettering, about a man struggling to set his life right, to put his mistakes behind him and win back the love of his life. I greatly enjoyed writing this story, despite (or perhaps because of) the subject matter. It was fun to spend time in our main character’s unusual brain.
I met Ken Frederick in the Comics Experience Creators Workshop. His dreamy, almost impressionistic ink washes are a perfect complement to our protagonist’s uniquely disconnected view of the world.
