Art by Leandro Panganiban
I mentioned earlier that Reach the Sun was the first comic completed for this book, but The Day I Go Home was the first script written. I wrote it in the Comics Experience writing class taught by Andy Schmidt. It’s also one of the most experimental stories in the book, and plays around with the notion of sequential art. As comics readers (and as humans), when we see two panels next to each other, we draw certain connections. But sometimes things are more complicated than we think.
This story is also extremely dependent upon the artist; even more so than most comics. Leandro Panganiban excels at character acting, at human faces, expressions and emotions. Leandro makes me truly feel for our characters, and handles the trickier elements of the story with great skill.
