Storytelling is so often built around communication. What people know, when they know it, and whether others also know. In this story, every character knows something different, and no one but the reader can see the full picture.
Most of the stories in this book were written before the artist came on board, but this story was written specifically for Nikki Cook. She is masterful at reflecting a character’s inner turmoil, and her scenes of violence are visceral, grotesque and gorgeous all at once. I was also fascinated by the notion of applying her hyper-detailed, almost baroque style to a story about a woman who sees none of it.
