Art and Lettering by JM Ken Niimura

The comics medium has so many units of storytelling. The panel; the page; the issue; the arc. Add digital comics and that list increases exponentially. With Warlord, I set out to write a story in which each page would serve as an individual story, which could reasonably stand alone from all the rest.

Like many people, I became aware of JM Ken Niimura’s extraordinary art through his work on I Kill Giants. When writing this story I asked myself, “If you could ask any artist in the world to draw this, who would it be?” And his was the first name I came up with. Ken is able to create eminently relatable characters without sacrificing his fun and distinctive style, making him the perfect artist to introduce a new cast of characters on every single page.
